Tiny village on the road to Abercrombie Caves
Trunkey Creek is a quiet, attractive and tiny old goldmining village located 262 km west of Sydney, 56 km south of Bathurst along the road to Crookwell and 13 km from Abercrombie Caves. All that remains from the gold days are some mud huts, brick chimneys and abandoned mineshafts and mullock heaps in the hills. Today the area is noted for its merino wool production. The village has little more than a wooden church, a few houses, a pub-general store and a cafe. The pastoral tradition in the area dates back to the early 1820s. The town's Wool Festival is held on the October long weekend.

Grove Creek Observatory
The Grove Creek Observatory on Grove Creek Rd is well worth visiting. It is reputedly one of the largest private observatories in Australia. It is run as a non-profit organisation for enthusiastic amateur astronomers. It is not designed for the casual visitor. The owners like people to come and stay and then use the observatory during their stay. All visits must be booked in advance.
